OMAN: Land of Enchantment

Dubai, Our First Stop

After almost eight months of planning and research, at 4:15 tomorrow, Monday, December 21, we will start our journey to the Middle East.

We will arrive in Dubai around 1 am MST on December 23rd. After much painful de-selection, my suitcase could finally be closed. Happily, we are going through Dallas and London, with a nine-hour lay over in England. If we are feeling ambitious, we might make a detour into Downtown London – love it at Christmas time.

During our first few days, we will be in Dubai, part of the UAE, then on the 27th, our driver will pick us up at the hotel and take us to the Musandam Peninsula, on the Straits of Hormuz across from Iran, in northernmost Oman. Wednesday and during the rest of our time there, the weather is predicted to be sunny, with a high of 82 and low of 66.

Back home, our house will be well-guarded and cared for: Border Patrol at the end of our driveway, a vigilant and well-armed single lady across the road to the south, law enforcement to the north, and a sharp-shooting college boy within. Our house keeper will clean everything and re-do the saltillo tiles before our return. Bowdie and Ginger are with sitters, and, of course, Espiritu and Illusion have a new home now.

Now . . . if we both can sleep, tomorrow will be here soon!  I realize Dubai is ultra modern, but I think it will be visions of horses and camels and sheiks and genies that will fill our dreams tonight.

  1. You are on your way, safe traveling, I’m anxious to read about your adventure. You and Tom are not the rocking chair grandparents/retirement people.
